Own Your Own…

Education!

I’ve gotten a few notes over the last few weeks about what can be done about some activities occurring in the classroom (profs not being there, lack of replies from students, support services not supporting). This is something that is distressing to me as an adult learner.

Regardless of where I am going to school, ownership is one part of my success. Now sometimes this is perceived as:

  • High maintenance student
  • Class nudge
  • PITA
  • Not him again

Whatever the perception, I own my experience. This means that I will earn the grade I set out to earn, do the work that needs to be done, get the feedback I need when I need it, gain accurate grades, persist when I need to persist.

I know some folks don’t like to be a pain and that is fine, I don’t see it that way, I see it as owning my own education. I also spend a fair amount of time working my support team to help me become successful, this is the purpose of being a support team member. Remember, asking someone to perform their job is not being a pain; it is being an owner.

So, call to action, find out what things you don’t own and get the ownership papers. It is time we all stepped up to the plate and became accountable.
