Happy Birthday Lego

Posted by mike on January 28, 2008 in General Musings |

50 years old and going strong. Legos are my #1 favorite toy of all time. I remember have a huge blue canvas bag filled with loose legos. Growing up legos captured my imagination and taught be the mechanics of space relations, structural integrity, use of color, and so many wonderful things. My memories also include some wonderful time with my brother where we weren’t fighting like brother fight. We could collaborate and build fantastic space armadas and launch into a plane of reality different from our own.

I wish I still had my bag of legos. It seems as though life takes a hold on us and shakes loose the fancies of childhood. People might look upon my bag of legos now and shake their heads at the grown man building castles and spaceships in disgust. When did we lose the fun of legos, the imagination of building, and the wonder of play?

As my daughter grows, I plan to play legos with her and hope she has wonderful memories like mine when Legos turn 100.

Happy Birthday Lego and many more!

  • I’m a HUGE Lego fan! I miss my collection as well. Funny, I was just thinking about Legos last night and all the fun I had with them. Sometimes I’m tempted to pick up a Lego set when I see them on sale, just for old times sake.
