About The Doc Blog
Doc Blog Mission Statement
To chronicle the adventures and experiences of my doctoral journey.
Mike’s Doc Blog began as the journal component in my doctoral studies at University of Phoenix. Maintaining a journal aids learners in processing knowledge and information. This processing helps with critical thinking, retention, inclusion and exclusion of materials into the program, reading, and studies. Additionally, continual writing helps ward off writer’s block, in particular having too much information coming through the funnel at one time. Since then, the Doc Blog has taken on a place for musings of many kinds and a repository of thoughts, friends, information, and other data. In general, I use this blog to capture my thoughts and keep me moving through the doctoral program.
Since beginning Mike’s Doc Blog, my dissertation has taken several twists and turns. I began my doctoral journey wanting to know what impact using video games in corporate training might have on worker performance. Some folks would consider this serious gaming and it was a topic that was very interesting. However, after beginning the Doc Blog and entering conversations about Web 2.0 technologies, I found a new passion. The read/write/consume aspect of the evolved Internet is fascinating. Not too long ago, I envied those that could write code and publish websites. Since then, the ease of using web software enabled many to enter the Internet publishing world and that soon evolved into blogging, podcasting, wikis, social networking, etc.
So, my dissertation topic changed overtime finally resting with the need to understand the learning impact of using podcasts in corporate training.
This blog is a journey, not a destination. You are a part of special community of continually learning and your involvement is most welcome. Onward and upward.

[...] Currently my About Page is written in the third person, styled after the brief “About the Author” sections of many books. I consider my blog a type of publication, and my about page to be akin to those “About the Author” sections. Sue Waters mentioned in a response to my Day 2: First Time Reader Audit that she is, “not a fan of the style of [my] about page”. I e-mailed her and asked her to expound her comment. She replied and explained that, “Well Mike’s is the same. You [are] both talking in…third person…your blog is inviting and you have a happy cheerful face which makes your blog all personal, and then you read the about which removes all personal aspects”. She goes on to suggest a style similar to that of Danielle’s page, who is a member of the Building a Better Blog Community. I had read Danielle’s page in response to her forum post concerning her updates to her page. Like many who responded to her post, I thought her page to be comprehensive. However, I just couldn’t get past my vision of the page following an “about the Author” like style. [...]
